Steve and Angie were married in 1983. They have two sons, Cortland and Clay. They currently live in the family homestead overlooking Wells Canyon where Angie grew up.
Angie's grandfather, Gustave Roethemeyer, built the house in 1927 from
a pre-cut Montgomery Ward kit. Gustave Roethemeyer grew up in Drake,
Missouri on a farm. Gustave's parents immigrated to the United States
from Germany. As many of the young men did, Gustave worked away from
home on farms in Kansas, Nebraska, Dakotas, Montana, Oregon, Washington
and Texas
.
Gustave chose to settle near his brothers August and William in Nebraska.
After renting a farmstead and planting a wheat crop, Gustave returned
to Missouri to marry his sweetheart Ida Fleer in 1916. Gustave returned
to Nebraska in time to harvest his wheat crop in the summer.
Willis, Angie's father, was the youngest child in the Gustave Roethemeyer family. Willis married Greta Gardner in 1952. This is the same year that Willis began farming the homestead before serving in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. Willis returned to the home place in 1956. Angie's grandparents built a house in North Platte in 1952. They lived in the homestead while Willis was in the Army and stationed in California. After Willis returned, his parents moved back to North Platte where they lived until their death in 1960. Ida passed away in January and Gustave followed at the end of the year in December.
Willis and Greta have five daughters: Debra, Susan, Angela (Angie), Kamala, and Melissa. Steve grew up on his parent's farm in Pawnee City, Nebraska. Steve and Angie moved to the Maywood area in 1986 from Pawnee City. Steve has managed the farming and ranching operation over the past decade. Willis and Greta built a new house on Willis's subdivision in North Platte in 1996. After moving into their new home, Steve and Angie moved into the homestead.
